Southern Africa is notorious for its HIV/AIDS epidemic. According to UNICEF, Southern and Eastern Africa account for half of the world’s population with HIV. Although HIV can spread through multiple ways, the most commonly seen way is through unprotected sex. This is a common occurrence in southern Africa, due to the nature of sexual relationships. Unfortunately, with a disease that is obtained in such a way, the disease itself and those who have it carry a stigma.
The many nations of southern Africa have varying views when it comes to HIV and AIDS. Although they differ in some ways, overall, the perceptions towards the cause, spread, treatment, and prevention are relatively similar.
